The  Senior Open Golf Championship, will be held at Royal Birkdale on Thursday 25th Sunday 28th of July this year.  More than 300 competitors will take part in the qualifying event. 144 will take part in the Championship.

More than 40,000 spectators are expected to attend the four day event.

Cllr Ian Maher, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member Regeneration and Tourism, said: “When The Open Championship was last held at Royal Birkdale we witnessed a huge impact on the local economy. A similar impact is expected later in the year when The Senior Open is being held at the famous Royal Birkdale Golf Courses. Golf enthusiasts from across the world will descend on Sefton and the greater Merseyside area spending money on all the superb facilities we have to offer.

The Senior Open Championship will be a chance for us all to showcase what Sefton has to offer and is also a great opportunity for residents of all ages to see some great golfers close up at a world class venue. The event should be a superb spectacle.”
